Bikram Yoga is designed to systematically move fresh, oxygenated blood to your body, to each organ and fibre, restoring all systems to healthy working order. During a ninety minute Bikram Yoga Class you will work every tendon, ligament, gland, joint, muscle, and internal organs. Proper weight, muscle tone, vibrant good health and a sense of well-being will automatically follow.
Bikram's Yoga classes are done in a hot room to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow deeper stretching, and cleanse the body by flushing toxins.
Everyone can benefit from yoga but the Bikram Yoga series is physically demanding and may not be for everyone. People who are already in good shape, with minimal chronic ailments or injuries, are good candidates for Bikram Yoga. Bikram Yoga is a practice designed to encourage the cleansing of the body, the releasing of toxins, and maximum flexibility.
Bikram Yoga classes take place under the guidance of a certified Bikram Yoga Instructor. When you are trying to identified a yoga studio or Yoga centre for classes don’t be afraid to ask your Bikram Yoga Instructors about their credentials and experience.
These Yoga studios are built in such a way that you always get the proper heating which help you to do your postures optimally. Heating the room helps by promoting sweat and thus flushing toxins from your body. Heat also helps loosening up tendons and ligaments in your body allowing you to get deeper into postures and prevent injuries.
Overcoming the heat is often the main problem of new Bikram Yoga students. If you are a student who is older or had previous health problems you may find the heat to be more taxing than helpful.
Even young, healthy students find the temperature to be a large part of the challenge for the first few Bikram Yoga classes. Yet at whatever age, an open mind and a determined spirit is no match for any initial hurdles presented by the heat and the journey towards healing the body, mind and spirit can truly begin.
